Competitions: Science Expo, Scientific Art, Environmental Challenge, Robothon (Note: Robothon consists of 4 team members and entry fee is R100 per team member)
Northern Cape Science Fair Events
The following events will form part of Northern Cape Science Fair:
Science Expo
At the provincial science fair, learners can discuss their work with fellow students, teachers and the public. Learners from grades 1 to 12 can participate. Learners from grades 6 – 12 may be selected to participate at SA-YESS national science fair. A maximum of 10 projects per school will be accepted. Maximum of two (2) learners per project – please note that individual projects will receive priority when projects are chosen for National participation.
Lego Construction Competition
Learners in grades 1 to 3 can participate in the LEGO-technology challenge. Learners must build a model with LEGO, and it must be able to carry a brick (Lego will be supplied). The type of construction may vary from year to year. Unlike the other competitions, groups of up to 4 learners may work together in a team. A maximum of 3 teams per school will be accepted.
Waste Material Construction Competition
Learners in grades 4 to 6 learners can participate in a technology challenge, where they must build a model from waste material (material will be supplied). The type of construction may vary from year to year. A maximum of 5 teams per school will be accepted, with two members per team.
Robothon (separate event in 2022)
Teams of up to 4 learners (grades 6-9) can enter the Robothon. 2 teams per school will be accepted. Each team must have their own EV3 or Spike Prime kit and a laptop.
